How do you backup your data? What would you do if there was a disaster at Cosmolex?

Cosmolex tell me they back up all the data we enter every 4 hours, so in most cases it seems like it would not be necessary for me to do my own backup. However I still feel nervous about not having my own backup.

What would happen in the unlikely event of some disaster at Cosmolex? For example a big fire in their building that killed most of the employees, or a terrorist attack, or one mentally unbalanced disgrunteled employee who decided to wipe out the database and all backups? These are all unlikely but all are possible. They would be devestating events for any firm using Cosmolex that does not do regular backups.

You can go tab by tab and do exports, but this would be pretty time consuming. There is no way to do a quick backup of all the data.

What are you doing about backup?

Hi Tom.  We appreciate the question.  As for data back ups we have all of our data stored in multiple locations.  One of the locations is Amazon Web Service, that is one of the most secure services as well as a different location for additional backup.  If you would like to read more about our security and your data backup information, please click the below link

Thanks for the info on Cosmolex security. I read it and agree that you are very secure. You are much more secure than we were before switching to Cosmolex.

I still have some concerns about not being able to export all of our data at once and back it up on our own system.   When we moved from Quickbooks to Cosmolex we were able to export the Quickbooks data and import it into Cosmolex.   Since we can’t export the Cosmolex data it would be much more difficult to move to another system.

We just started using Cosmolex and we are very happy with it and hope to use it indefinitely as our practice grows. The software and the support are wonderful and the price is reasonable. We have no thought of ever leaving Cosmolex as it exists today. However it is always possible that Cosmolex could change in the future. There could be changes in management and quality could go down or prices could go way up. We don’t want to leave Cosmolex, but if we ever did want to leave at some time in the future it would be pretty difficult because we can’t export all the data. In a way we are locking ourselves into Cosmolex permanently because we can’t export all the data.

There is still a necessity for users to take point in time backups regardless of how good a provider’s security is. The best firms in the world have faced challenges with ransomware and loss of data and there should be a means to back up data in the event of a catastrophic failure. Please consider providing this feature. Cosmolex appears to be very concerned with security and redundancy so this would appear to coincide with this outlook.
